It is quite plain that in this Gospel we are breathing a very different atmosphere from that of Matthew, Mark and Luke... In John's Gospel the discourses are long and different in style; they deal almost entirely with the great themes of life, light, love, truth and Christ's relationship with the Father. There are many similes and metaphors but no parables at all.
